26 June 2025 Frederiksberg Court order forces Danish internet service providers to block 178 unlicensed gambling domains — the largest single action since website blocking began in 2012. The Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden) says the move strengthens consumer protection and supports the regulated market.

Judge’s Gavel Triggers Instant Sites Blackout

Spillemyndigheden presented evidence that each domain targeted Danish players without the required license. The court ruled in the regulator’s favor, instructing ISPs to implement domain-name blocks immediately, surpassing the previous blocking record of 82 sites set in 2024.

How Rogue Casinos Get Caught: Danish Lingo, Kroner Deposits, Copycat Skins

Under Danish law, a site is deemed illegal if it lacks a local license yet clearly addresses the domestic market — for example, by using Danish language, accepting deposits in kroner, or offering local payment methods. Many of the blocked domains were copycat skins of brands such as Verdecasino, CSGOempire and N1bet.

Doubling the Raids: Denmark’s Rapid-Fire Blocking Playbook

Since 2023 the Authority has filed blocking cases twice a year instead of once, allowing faster removal of new rogue operators. Director Anders Dorph welcomed the ruling but noted the “frustration” of repeatedly chasing unlicensed sites, describing regular court actions as the most effective deterrent available.

Purges Pay Off: 616 Sites Down, Legal Revenue Up

Including this case, Denmark has blocked 616 gambling sites over thirteen years. The regulator insists that regular purges protect the country’s licensed sector, whose gross gaming revenue grew 11.6 % year-on-year in April 2025, driven primarily by online casino activity.

Beyond Blockades: Educating Bettors Back to Licensed Play

Spillemyndigheden plans to combine continued site blocking with public education on licensed options. Industry analysts expect the clamp-down to accelerate channelization toward legal operators, preserving tax revenue and player safety as the market matures.
