Duel Casino founder and high-stakes poker player Ossi “Monarch” Ketola was temporarily detained by Finnish police in Helsinki after a confrontation involving his group and counter-protesters.

Polish poker professional Wiktor “Limitless” Malinowski was also among the group, which was stopped by police after leaving the scene. According to Ketola, five people were held for approximately two hours before being released.

The incident unfolded during a politically charged weekend in Helsinki, where Ketola had been livestreaming events on his Kick channel.

Ketola said he initially attended a march organized by Sinimusta Liike, also known as the Blue-Black Movement, out of curiosity.

The Finnish poker player said he was not particularly familiar with the political organization but found that some of its views aligned with his own.

Ketola was documenting the day’s events for his online audience. Malinowski, one of the world’s best-known high-stakes cash-game players, was also part of his group.

The two poker players have previously competed against each other in major heads-up cash games, including a high-stakes encounter in Jeju. Ketola described Malinowski as a friend.

Confrontation With Counter-Protesters

Later in the day, Ketola and his group moved toward a counter-protest.

According to Ketola’s account, the situation quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. He claimed that his group was attacked without provocation.

Parts of the incident were captured on Ketola’s livestream. The stream continued until police officers instructed him to stop filming.

Ketola and his group subsequently left the area by car.

Police Temporarily Detain Five People

The group’s departure did not end the incident.

Police later stopped the vehicle and detained five people from the group. Ketola said they spent around two hours in the back of a police vehicle while officers checked their identities.

According to Ketola, neither he nor the other members of the group were formally questioned during the detention. They were eventually released.

The available reporting does not indicate that Ketola or Malinowski were charged with a criminal offense following the incident. The detention should therefore not be interpreted as a criminal conviction or finding of wrongdoing.

Ketola has said that he intends to pursue the matter further.
