Spain’s online gambling sector experienced significant growth in 2024, with the total number of active online players rising by 21.6% to over 2 million, according to the annual report published by the country’s Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).
The findings point to a maturing but increasingly engaged player base. Men accounted for 83.15% of users, while women represented 16.85%. The majority of players (85.7%) fell within the 18–45 age group.
Annual Spend, Player Profiles, and Game Preferences
On average, Spanish users spent €706 per year on online gambling, with men spending slightly more (€740) than women (€538). The highest-spending demographic was players aged 46–55, with annual expenditures averaging €1,146. In contrast, players aged 18–25 spent just €299.
Betting remains the leading vertical, attracting 1.57 million players — a 25.4% year-on-year increase. Online casino participation grew by 29.2%, and poker saw a 13% uptick. Still, more than half of users (52%) engaged in only one vertical: 36.25% in betting, 11.37% in casino games, 3.78% in poker, and 0.55% in bingo.
Profits, Losses, and Market Revenue
The report also revealed that 21.3% of players ended the year with net winnings, while 35% lost over €147, and 5% won more than €489. Gross gaming revenue (GGR) for the online sector rose by 17.6% to €1.45 billion, while marketing spend across operators increased by 30.4%, reaching €526.3 million.
The figures suggest a healthy but competitive market, with continued growth in player numbers and operator investment.
