Google’s October 28 update moves sweepstakes casinos out of Social Casino
Google issued a clear update to its Ads policies on October 28 2025 that says sweepstakes casinos are not social casino games. They are no longer eligible for Social Casino certification and must follow rules that apply to gambling activity.
In its Gambling and Games guidance Google defines social casino as simulated play with no chance to win something of value. By identifying sweepstakes casinos as outside that definition the company closed the long argued gap used by dual currency promotions.
What advertisers and operators need to change
Since these titles are now treated as offering real world value they fall under Google’s Online Gambling requirements. That shifts operators toward gambling certification and jurisdiction specific licensing rather than the lighter Social Casino path.
Media buyers should expect tighter reviews on creative claims and landing pages. Campaigns that relied on the social casino label are likely to face rejection unless advertisers can prove eligibility under the stricter program.
Early fallout and likely pivots
In the first days after the policy change monitors noted a drop in paid placements for sweepstakes brands. Mentions include Modo.us Crown Coins and McLuck which appeared to lose sponsored visibility as settings and budgets were pulled back.
Analysts expect a short term move toward SEO affiliates and creator led traffic while companies evaluate licensing routes that could restore access to Google’s ad inventory. The near term picture is higher compliance costs and slower acquisition until strategies are adapted.
